Building stronger alliance with African counterparts

IAACA spares no efforts in expanding its network worldwide and fostering collaboration with international and regional organizations to create synergy in the fight against corruption. This was exemplified by our recent participation in the 6th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Association of African Anti-Corruption Authorities (AAACA) held in Johannesburg, South Africa on 31 July – 1 August 2023 to consolidate the working relationship with the anti-corruption counterparts in Africa.

Mr Simon Peh, IAACA President, spoke at the event, which was attended by about 100 delegates of AAACA’s members authorities and partner organizations. He shared the recent work of IAACA in the African region, and invited AAACA and the delegates to join hands with the Association to win the battle against corruption: “It is only with our concerted efforts that the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal 16.5, that is to substantially reduce corruption and bribery in all their forms by 2030, can be victoriously achieved in the coming 7 years.”

Riding on this special opportunity, the IAACA delegation held bilateral meetings with 10 African ACAs and international organizations to establish dialogue and explore possibilities of collaboration. Under the arrangement of Adv. Andy Mothibi, IAACA Vice President and Head and Chief Executive of the Special Investigating Unit of South Africa, Mr Peh met with the Executive Committee Members of AAACA to enhance mutual understanding and discuss areas of cooperation. This participation has been most fruitful and fosters closer relations between IAACA and African ACAs.
